Lying beneath a leafy canopy in the heart of the much-loved village of Grasmere in the Lake District, The Grasmere Hotel is a small luxury hotel filled with Victorian charm and period features. The manicured garden to the rear of the hotel tumbles down to the River Rothay, where you can sip on cocktails as the tranquil sounds of nature lull you into a calmer state of mind.
This really is a beautiful bolthole, designed to shower you in the wholesome Lakeland goodness that does wonders for the soul. As you step inside the Lake District country house hotel, you sense the rich history coursing through the walls while modern touches such as flop-into armchairs mingle seamlessly with original open fires and stripped oak flooring.
Owners, Kate and Simon, along with their fabulous team, gave me a warm welcome and ensured my stay was just perfect from start to finish.
Taste of Grasmere Restaurant

Elegant in design, The Grasmere Hotel restaurant adds a touch of class to your dining experience and the a la carte style menu will impress even the most discerning palates. Taking inspiration from the seasons and the region, the Chef sources the finest local ingredients to create culinary works of art. It’s evident that as much passion and flair go into the presentation as the flavours and textures. Of all the Grasmere restaurants I’ve dined at, this is undeniably my favourite to date.

Saunter through to the Cocktail Bar and Lounge where the newly refurbished bar is stocked with a good range of locally brewed ales, spirits and wines. The huge picture window provides a wonderful backdrop for a nightcap as the sun goes down.

Grasmere Accommodation
Each of the Grasmere Hotel’s 11 ensuite rooms features the comfiest of beds and is beautifully decorated with a dash of traditional Lakeland charm. Think elegance without the stuffiness and serene garden views that overlook the River Rothay.

Things to Do in Grasmere
Grasmere village is a treasure trove of independent shops, cafes and galleries, and the hotel is perfectly placed to explore it all. Take a stroll through the village, visit the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop or explore the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike. The hotel is also close to many of the Lake District’s most famous attractions, including Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, Allan Bank and, of course, Grasmere and Rydal Water.

Walks from Grasmere Hotel
You’ll find plenty of local walks that lead right from the front door of The Grasmere Hotel. Whether you love seeking out hidden waterfalls, tackling one of the mighty fells or enjoying a wild swim, there’s lots to discover. These are just a few of the suggested walks from Grasmere…
Grasmere Circular – A 3-mile loop that steers you along the lakeside, through pretty woodland trails and below rugged fells.
Easedale Tarn and Sour Milk Gill – This is one of the best walks from Grasmere and takes you on a thrilling journey past waterfalls, infinity pools and up to the magnificent Easedale Tarn, where you can cool off with a refreshing dip.

Alcock Tarn – While the initial climb up to Alcock Tarn can leave some feeling breathless, your efforts are rewarded with stunning fell views.
Helm Crag – Affectionately known as the Lion and the Lamb, Helm Crag is a popular peak for fell walkers. The views from the summit are spectacular and well worth the 3.5 mile hike from the village of Grasmere.
